Borden® Cheese Debuts “Grilled Cheese of the Year”

Comfort food is getting a moment of recognition. Borden® Cheese has introduced its first-ever “Grilled Cheese of the Year” in celebration of National Grilled Cheese Day on April 12, turning a simple sandwich into a full-on nationwide food spotlight.

The 2026 Winner: Protein Powerhouse

Leading the debut is the Protein Powerhouse, a modern spin on the classic melt. It pairs Borden Mild Cheddar and Mozzarella Melts over sliced chicken breast, finished with a tangy Greek yogurt sauce and pressed between golden, crispy bread. The result is a sandwich that balances indulgence with a more functional, protein-forward profile—delivering over 40g of protein along with fiber and a rich, melty bite.

America Still Loves the Classic

Alongside the new creation, Borden also asked fans to weigh in on their all-time favorite. After more than 20,000 votes, the verdict leaned traditional: the Classic grilled cheese came out on top. Made with Borden Extra Sharp Melts and American Singles on buttery white bread, it highlights the enduring appeal of simplicity done right.

A Year of Cheese Inspiration

This announcement marks the beginning of a broader push, with Borden planning to roll out additional grilled cheese ideas and recipe inspiration throughout the year.
