Cheeseland’s roots go back to the Netherlands in the early 1900s, when the founder’s grandfather began selling cheese in 1926 in Huizen, a small fishing village along the Zuider Zee. He started out delivering red-waxed wheels by bicycle before bringing his brothers into the growing business and eventually expanding into international distribution.
That family connection to cheese continued through the generations. After moving to New York in 1982, the company’s current owner entered the U.S. cheese-importing business before eventually launching Cheeseland and building a business focused on bringing Dutch specialty cheeses to American consumers.
Today, Cheeseland remains family-owned and operated, distributing high-quality, traditionally made Dutch cheeses throughout the U.S. and internationally.
KoKos® Coconut Cheese
KoKos® brings an unexpected ingredient to the cheese counter: organic coconut cream. Made with fresh, pasteurized cow’s milk and coconut cream, the cheese has a creamy texture with a nutty flavor and a subtle touch of sweetness.
The combination makes KoKos® particularly versatile for snacking and entertaining. Serve it alongside fresh fruit, slice it over crisp crackers or pair it with a chilled white wine. It can also take an unexpected turn into dessert, where the cheese can be paired with chocolate and red wine for a sweet-and-savory combination.
And this isn’t just a novelty cheese. KoKos® was named the Grand Prize winner at the 2015 SIAL Innovation Awards, recognizing its distinctive approach to cheese innovation.
Honey Bee Goat®
Honey and goat cheese are a classic pairing, and Cheeseland’s Honey Bee Goat® puts the combination directly into the cheese itself.
Made from pure goat’s milk with honey incorporated for sweetness, the cheese has a mild, nutty profile. It offers a gentle sweetness without becoming overly salty or intense, making it an approachable option for those who may prefer a more delicate goat cheese.
It’s also a versatile cheese in the kitchen. Honey Bee Goat® can be sliced, cubed or grated, served with fruit as a snack, tossed into salads or melted into a dish. Its ability to melt beautifully makes it an easy way to add both flavor and creaminess to cooked dishes.
At the 2016 World Cheese Competition in Madison, Wisconsin, Honey Bee Goat® earned 99.5 points out of 100 and took second prize in the Flavored Semi-soft/Semi-hard Goat’s Milk Cheese category.
Ewephoria® Aged
Ewephoria® Aged offers a different take on Dutch cheese with sheep’s milk and a full year of aging.
Produced in Holland using milk from a small farm where the sheep are treated like part of the family, the cheese develops a sweet, nutty character during its 12-month aging period. It’s an especially approachable example of aged sheep’s milk cheese, with a flavor profile that Cheeseland describes as almost candy-like.
That natural sweetness makes it a fun choice beyond the traditional cheese course. Pair Ewephoria® Aged with red or green grapes and rustic crackers for an appetizer, or bring it to the dessert course for a simple sweet-and-savory pairing.
Double Cream
For those who believe a little extra cream is rarely a bad idea, there’s Double Cream.
Holland’s fertile soil and lush pastures contribute to naturally rich cow’s milk, and Cheeseland takes that richness a step further by adding additional cream. The result is a mild, rich cheese with a smooth texture and excellent melting qualities.
Double Cream is particularly useful in the kitchen. It can be melted into creamy cheese sauces, folded into omelets and tortillas, or added to potatoes for an extra-rich finish. And it doesn’t have to stop at dinner: try melting it over a hot slice of apple pie for an indulgent sweet-and-savory dessert.
