Elixia: France’s Oldest Lemonade Factory Keeps Artisan Tradition Sparkling

In a beverage category filled with new trends and bold flavors, Elixia stands out by staying rooted in craftsmanship. Founded in 1856 by Faustin Girardet, Elixia is recognized as the oldest lemonade factory in France, with more than 160 years of family tradition behind every bottle.

Over the generations, Elixia has continued to preserve the techniques that shaped its legacy. In 2000, the sixth generation took over the family business, introducing refreshed packaging, a modern brand identity, and an expanded range of flavored lemonades—while keeping the traditional methods that make the brand unique.

Elixia continues to produce its lemonades using historic bronze and copper mixing and bottling equipment, along with manual production and careful quality control. The recipes remain true to their roots, made without artificial colors, artificial flavors, or preservatives. Key ingredients include water sourced from the French Jura Mountains, pure cane sugar, and natural flavors.

The brand’s signature lemonade, Elixia Nature, offers a classic sparkling refreshment, while the collection has grown to include flavors such as lemon, wild strawberry, passionfruit, morello cherry, and mango.

Beyond traditional lemonade, Elixia has also explored more premium and creative offerings. Its 24K Gold lemonade adds a touch of celebration with edible gold flakes, while FAIRMIN red and white limes revisit a historic French tradition by blending lemonade with wine for a lightly alcoholic refreshment. The brand also puts an artisan spin on cola, combining Tahitian vanilla, citrus notes, caramel sweetness, and warm spices.

With a history spanning generations, Elixia represents the balance between heritage and innovation. By preserving traditional production methods while embracing new flavors and experiences, the French lemonade maker continues to bring a little sparkle to the beverage aisle.
