For more than 70 years, Entremont has been bringing the flavors of the French Alps to tables and kitchens around the world. And the French are clearly fans: Entremont has been voted France’s favorite brand in the Emmental category, adding a little extra recognition to a brand built around a long-standing family passion for cheese.
Rooted in Haute-Savoie and built on generations of cheesemaking know-how, Entremont began as a family business before growing into a familiar name across French kitchens. Its story started in 1948, when three brothers established a business in the French Alps. Just two years later, they began aging and selling Emmental, sending the first wheels bearing the Entremont name from the mountain pastures to cellars in Annecy.
As the reputation of their cheeses grew, so did the range. Entremont expanded beyond Emmental to cheeses from other French regions and formats ranging from portions and sliced cheese to grated varieties.
Today, Entremont cheeses are made with French milk sourced from the family farms of Sodiaal, France’s largest dairy cooperative, and crafted by French cheesemakers who bring decades of expertise to the process. The result is a line made for everyday French-style eating—whether melted into a fondue, baked until golden on a gratin, layered into a sandwich, or enjoyed simply on a cheeseboard.
A Taste of France, Aged to Taste
Among the range is French Gruyère, aged for a minimum of four months on spruce boards in traditional cellars. Its fruity flavor and soft, tender texture are complemented by subtle woody aromas from the aging process.
Entremont’s Comté offers a delicious look at how aging can shape a cheese. At four months, it is soft and delicate, with milky notes. At six months, floral and lactic aromas become more pronounced alongside a firmer texture. By eight months, fruity flavors and hazelnut notes begin to take center stage, while the 12-month version delivers a deeper, richer profile with roasted hazelnut character.
And then there’s Emmental, a classic for good reason. Sweet, buttery and lightly nutty, it has a firm yet creamy texture and the familiar, evenly distributed holes that make it instantly recognizable.
From the Alpine pastures of Haute-Savoie to the cheese counter and kitchen, Entremont brings a taste of French art de vivre to the table. With more than seven decades of experience behind the brand, there’s plenty of French cheese wisdom packed into every wheel, wedge and slice.
