Rogue River Blue is a cheese worth waiting for. Made only when autumn returns to Oregon’s Rogue Valley, this celebrated seasonal blue is crafted with milk from cows at their seasonal best, then aged for 9–11 months before each wheel is hand-wrapped in Syrah grape leaves soaked in pear spirits.
The annual release arrives on the Autumnal Equinox, marking the debut of the newest vintage of Rogue River Blue. Inside, the texture is fudgy and rich, with calcium lactate crystals that develop as the cheese ages. Its flavor brings together pear brandy, vanilla, toffee, truffle and fig, backed by a pronounced blue character.
Rogue River Blue is impressive enough to enjoy on its own, but a simple fruit compote lets its layered flavors shine. It also adds depth to salads and meat dishes, giving chefs plenty of room to work its complexity into seasonal menus.
For pairings, reach for wines with age and distinction, including Viognier, Gewürztraminer, Syrah, Cabernet Franc or Sauternes. Hazelnut Porter and Chocolate Stout highlight its earthy, nutty side, while pear brandy, whiskey and bourbon bring out its richer notes.
For Rogue River Blue, fall isn’t just the season—it’s the whole point.
